How does Online Counselling work and how secure are my emails?

To protect the privacy of our email communication, I use PrivacEmail – a very secure server that provides the encryption necessary to ensure our conversations are safe, secure and private.

Once you have registered for a PrivacEmail account and have paid for my service through either PayPal or via an E-transfer to we can begin our communication.

Each time I respond to your emails, you will receive notification to an email address you have disclosed to me.  This email is used to simply state that my confidential and secure response is waiting for you at your PrivacEmail account.

NOTE:  Security on your end is very important – please make sure you are using a private computer (not one that others have access to – eg. work, library, etc.) and that your email address is your own.  This is for your own protection and security.

How confidential are our sessions?

As a member in good standing with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapists Association I adhere to the strictest of rules – below are the Standards of Practise with the CCPA that I abide by.
“Counsellors have a fundamental ethical responsibility to take every reasonable precaution to respect and to safeguard their clients’ right to confidentiality, and to protect from inappropriate disclosure, any information generated within the counselling relationship. This responsibility begins during the initial informed consent process before commencing work with the client, continues after a client’s death, and extends to disclosing whether or not a particular individual is in fact a client.
This general requirement for counsellors to keep all information confidential is not absolute since disclosure may be required in any of the following circumstances:

• There is an imminent danger to an identifiable third party or to self;
• When a counsellor has reasonable cause to suspect abuse or neglect of a child;
• When a disclosure is ordered by a court;
• When a client requests disclosure, or
• When a client files a complaint or claims professional liability by the counsellor in a lawsuit.”

How do I register to start Online Counselling?

When you click on the link provided below – it will take you to another page from Life, Loss and to Live Again where you can set up your PrivaceEmail and PayPal accounts (if you choose to use this service).

Registration will take you from my website to a confidential and secure site (Worldwide Therapy Online Inc.) to complete some important steps:

a) intake questionnaire (similar to a face-to-face intake questionnaire) that is strictly confidential.

b) set-up and account – name, email, login information, etc.

c) address information

d) client consent – meaning the client understands the process of Online Counselling and agrees to the service

e) client concern – here the client will generate an email to be sent to me regarding their concerns.

The following link will take you through the process of registering.

If you have any questions, prior to registering, please contact me at for any non-confidential information.

Do I need to be technologically sauvé to use Online Counselling?

Short answer – No!

You will need your own reliable computer with secure Wi-Fi or internet. For your own safety and security, I strongly recommend that you use your personal computer and not one that is available to others (eg. workplace computers)
When you sign up for your first session, you will be directed to the PrivacEmail site, which will help explain how to access my Online Counselling site.

How long will it take for you to respond to me?

I like to respond within two to three (2-3) business days.  This gives me enough time to formulate a response to your needs and concerns, in a thoughtful, professional and mindful manner.  My replies are based on one hour of counselling time – which includes the reading of your email, note taking and preparing a response.

During our first session, we  will determine the frequency of our emails (once a week, every two weeks, etc.), possible suggestions or homework (readings, for example) I may ask you to complete.

How many email exchanges would we have and how often would they be?

The answer to these questions depends on a few things:

  • the nature of your concerns
  • the type of grief you are experiencing
  • the frequency will be determined by us during the first session – sometimes they are once a week or every two weeks – giving you time to process the exchanges between us
  • my belief is to provide short-term counselling in a timely manner
  • long-term psychotherapy is provided best through face-2-face counsellor meetings (such as in chronic grief)

What are your fees?

My fee for service is based on one hour of counselling time at $100.00 per hour or a reduced rate of $250 per 3 hours of counselling time, and is based on carefully reviewing your emails (if choosing this method of service only or a combination of email/video and phone conferencing), giving much thought to my response before sending my reply.

I presently have health care provider coverage from Blue Cross/Blue Shield, ICBC, Green Shield Canada and SSQ Insurance. Other insurance plans or Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) may cover my services – please check with your insurance provider.

What are your basic requirements for me to access online counselling?

  • Presently,  I am only working with British Columbia residents – due to regulations and licencing in other provinces.
  • I am not able to serve residents in the United States, as the USA laws require counsellors to be licensed in the state in which they practice.  Since I’m not licensed in the USA, I can’t provide the service to you.
  • I only work with adults +19 and over.
